Synopsis
Historically important as the first feature-length comedy ever produced, Tillie's Punctured Romance is perhaps more noteworthy for its teaming of the greatest silent comedians of the day. Producer/director Mack Sennett brought together all the top stars of Keystone Studios: Charlie Chaplin durinmg his firt year in film, the great silent comedienne Mabel Normand, Charley Chase, Chester Conklin, two character actors who worked with Chaplin throughout the teens (Mack Swain and Edgar Kennedy), not to mention the star of the film, Marie Dressler -- and of course the Keystone Kops.

Dressler reprised her stage role as tillie, a hulking woman with a hunger for love, but it was Chaplin who stole the show. In a rare departure from his "Little Tramp" characterization, Chaplin co-stars as a big city golddigger who plots to fleece Tillie of her abundant riches, but fails to anticipate the thunder of her wrath once his ignoble intentions are exposed.

Tillie's Punctured Romance delivers the manic slapstick comedy that Keystone is known for, complete with the trademark pie fight to cap off the comedy wiht the proper flourish.

All new intertitles have been prepared for this restored version, based on the original title list.

As a bonus feature, Kino presents another Keystone farce: Mabel's Married Life, directed by and starring Charlie Chap;lin. In it, Charlie must contend a beefy prizefighter to win back his wife Mabel (Normand).
