I Can See You (audio podcast)

This exclusive 30-minute talk between filmmaker Ti West (Trigger Man) and Graham Reznick (I Can See You) is the first in a series of original interviews (released every month) with talent associated with Kino’s new DVD and theatrical releases.

On this episode, Kino is highlighting its relationship with Larry Fessenden's Glass Eye Pix.

Besides Graham Reznick's debut feature I Can See You (available with his unreleased 3-D short film The Viewer), which Kino is making available on October 27, 2009, Kino has also released Ilya Chaiken's Liberty Kid and Ti West's Trigger Man. These three feature films were produced by Glass Eye Pix.

Focusing on three young and ambitious ad-men who go on a weekend wilderness trip to brainstorm for their first major marketing assignment, I Can See You progressively descends into a surreal (and avant-garde) plunge into sensory overload and madness.

Assigned with the task to overhaul the image of a once popular cleaning product named Claractix, these three up-and-coming New Yorkers find themselves at odds with each other when a woman conspicuously called Summer Day (played by Heather Robb, the lead singer of The Spring Standards), gets close to one of them. Moreover, while still in the wilderness, one of their girlfriends mysteriously disappears and a spectre from Claractix's past ad campaigns shows up unannounced - adding even more dashes of surrealism to this unique film.

The film's ad-men are played by real-life members of Waverly Films (Ben Dickinson, Duncan Skiles and Chris Ford), a Brooklyn based production company specializing in commercials and music videos. Long-lost Claractix pitchman Mickey Hauser is played by producer Larry Fessenden.

This Kino International DVD release will also bring its first foray into the world of 3-D cinema: The Viewer (2009), a brand new short film also written and directed by Graham Reznick, will be available as a special feature on the DVD for I Can See You. 3-D glasses will be included with all DVDs

SHE, created by the same team of special-effects wizards that stunned
Hollywood with the original King Kong, is a thrilling tale of adventure,
immortality and lost love. A group of explorers, led by the dashing Leo
Vincey (Randolph Scott, Ride the High Country), sets out on a dangerous
mission in search of the legendary "flame of life," a mysterious force that
bestows immortality. The perilous journey takes them North to the heart of a
remote glacier, where they are captured by the beautiful She, an
independent, powerful, and fearsome woman who rules a fantastic,
subterranean kingdom.

Filled with art deco sets, gorgeous costumes, Busby Berkeley-style
choreography, and backed by Max Steiner's (King Kong, Gone With the Wind)
powerful score, She is pure heart-stopping, eye-popping adventure, sure to
delight fans of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

This stunning new edition of She has been painstakingly restored in
High Definition from the original 35mm elements, and is here offered in both
its original B&W version, and in a newly colorized version created under the
direction of legendary effects master Ray Harryhausen. In addition, both

<itunes:subtitle>The 1910 Version of A Christmas Carol. A 10 minute short film from the Edison Studios. Excerpted from Kino International's DVD, "A Christmas Past".</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>A Christmas Carol. Directed by J. Searle Dawley (?).
Adapted from the story by Charles Dickens.
Cast: Marc MacDermott (Scrooge). © 23 December 1910;
Released 23 December 1910. American producers were already making Christmas films in the late nineteenth century. As the motion picture industry gained in size and stability, many companies made their release an annual ritual. The Edison Manufacturing Company offered The Night Before Christmas in December 1905, The Little Girl Who Did Not Believe in Santa Claus in December 19071, A Street Waif’s Christmas (released 18 December 1908), A Gift from Santa Claus (released 17 December 1909), and A Christmas Carol (released 23 December 1910). ). In fact, the Essanay Motion Picture Company had already turned Dickens’ story into a film back in 1908. This Edison picture was the second film adaptation of the Christmas classic (though the earliest version to be extant). Back in 1910, critics already held strong and divergent opinions about many of these films. A regular reviewer for Moving Picture World praised this adaptation of Dickens’ story as “so cleverly reproduced that the characters actually live before one. There is Scrooge at his office, lacking the spirit of Christmas, abusing those around him and refusing to contribute for the benefit of those who are in need.” It is one of the best releases of this company for a long time,” he concluded. “The actors have caught the spirit of the selection and have interpreted the characters with rare fidelity. … In truth, it would be difficult to suggest any improvement for this excellent film.” (MPW, 7 January 1911, 32.) Two weeks earlier, however, Moving Picture World columnist Thomas Bedding had expressed his disappointment with the Edison film, feeling that its sentimental themes were “dealt with sufficiently in the magazines and in everyday life without presenting them as entertainment.” For this reason he urged the Edison company “to adopt different themes, more of the merry-making order.” (“Christmas on the Screen,” Moving Picture World, 24 December 1910, 1459.) In truth, critics and moviegoers generally offered unflattering comments on Edison productions made from mid-1908 through 1910, though the company made an impressive rebound during 1911. </itunes:summary>
