In celebration of the centennial of Marlene Dietrich’s birth, the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Stiftung has struck a stunning new 35mm print of the film that catapulted her to fame. The Blue Angel features Dietrich at her most seductive as the nightclub singer Lola-Lola who destroys repressed schoolteacher Emil Jannings.

The movie which marked the beginning of the legendary collaboration between Dietrich and director von Sternberg also brought her to the attention of Hollywood where she would soon become a star.
